You may have heard us playing I Need A Doctor – Dr B’s collaboration with Elephant Man, Drip Monroe and Teezy. We caught up with the good doctor to find out a little bit more about his life and music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

When I’m not in the studio, I’m usually cooking. I used to be an Executive Chef, but now I only cook for my family. I’m trained in classic French and Italian cuisine. I spend most of time reading and studying. I’m a 3rd year University student and I’m studying Forensic psychology.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

My brother and I grew up physically and emotionally abused by my mother. Music was a great outlet for me because it made me feel safe when my own mother wouldn’t make me feel that way.

At bedtime, I would always listen to classical and opera music. This music made me feel so calm and most of time, I went to bed very happy. This genre always stuck with me, even though I’m an
EDM musician.

Last year, I completed my debut album with 22 songs and half the album is classical, opera and chamber music. This was a beautiful experience because I was able to work with opera singers and composers from Italy.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

My favourites were Wu-Tang, Cypress Hill and Bell Biv Devoe.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Most of songs are very story driven. I used to be a graphic novel writer and in 2017 my debut novel came out and it became a best seller. After that experience, I really wanted to focus on
music, but I was unsure on how to approach the creative process.

I’m a huge fan of Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese. When I was creating my album, I wanted to incorporate certain sounds, special effects and voice actors to give my listeners a completely new and deeper experience with my music. This led to the creation of my debut EP, “The Asylum”.

This was such a great experience because this story is told from a horror perspective. The EP begins with an intro and you hear “The God of Time”. I got to work with really talented voice actors for this album. I was to incorporate special effects, bullet time and explosions on the album. The EP sounds more like an audio film than an actual album.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I’ve released over 60 singles since 2019. One of my biggest singles is with Elephant Man (I need a Doctor). He appears on the original track and the remix.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I enjoy listening to XM satellite radio. I like hearing new artists and their take on electronic music and how they interpret sounds and stories. I’m huge fan of pop and acoustic music.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

My dream collaboration would be to work with Zack Synder or Christopher Nolan. I would to write original music for their of his films.

What are your plans for the future?

My debut EP will be out late 2023 and I’m looking forward to hearing the feedback from my fans.

I’m also releasing a coffee table book called “Coffee & Art”. The book is about creative
process of when I was creating my 2 albums. There are over 100 storyboards that show a lot of the characters and early concepts in my stories.

The book is broken up into 5 chapters and I included 5 original coffee recipes that anyone can make at home. The concept is that the reader should make one of the coffee recipes while they enjoy the original artwork.

I’ll be doing shows throughout Canada in 2023 and 2024, but my main focus is finishing my University degree. My goal is to complete 3 PhDs which should take me another 8 years of
training.
