Some lockdown ended it’s not been quite as easy as it was in getting artists into our studio. We’ve certainly done more interviews across the board, but many of these are over the dreaded Zoom as everyone has found out how easy it is to do this.
But we’re doing our best to get people to visit our little corner of Brentwood. Last week we had visits from Maldon alternative rock band Myopia, whose influences include Muse, Metallica, Radiohead and Bring Me The Horizon. They gave a first play to their new single Unendable, which was released on Friday.
We also had a visit from singer/songwriter Adam Wedd, who has been popping into the station with his guitar on and off for the last 10 years. Adam once worked at the famous Abbey Road studios as a tea boy, but has since shared stages with Ed Sheeran and toured all over Europe and the USA. Adam played an acoustic set in the studio, giving us renditions of Hurricane and Party Like The First Time as well as his new single OK.
And we’ve got lots more coming up over the next couple of weeks, including Essex band Square Wave whose excellent new single Sweet has been getting a lot of airplay with us, and Nashville singer/songwriter Ria Barkr who will be visiting us while touring the UK.
We’ve also got live music from Essex neo-rockabilly band Lower The Tone as well as local band Harry and the Chicks, who I have promised extra airtime to as they are big West Ham fans. (This is, I understand, how all radio stations are operated).
You can hear all the sets on 98FM and online at phoenixfm.com – and everything is posted up again if you miss them.
