You may have heard us playing out the epic Space Drifter Symphony from Marcus Pangregrew on Phoenix FM recently – and we caught up with Marcus to find out more about his life and music.
Tell us a little bit about your yourself?
I’m an independent rock artist currently living in Taiwan, age unknown.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
I first started to develop my passion in music when I was 7, when I came home from school singing “Hallelujah”. Then my Dadsuddenly thought of Queen and gave me “Bohemian Rhapsody” to listen to, and told me stories about the song, then I was like…WOW! as I discovered the world of rock…!
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
I actually listened to many progressive rock bands like Rush, Yes, and King Crimson while I’m growing up (actually I’m growing up right now…), because I just loved the idea of bringing a story into my songs which I did in my 3rd album (will be released in July 26). I also listened to many hard rock bands like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow and stuff.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I would describe it with words like “Cosmic”, “Epic”, or “Rocking”, most my songs in my third album are influenced by progressive rock and psychedelic rock (mostly Rush, Yes, and Pink Floyd) and it is a concept album (an album that tells stories), with lyrics telling a story of a “Space Drifter” called Jacker Panner and how he persuaded human to stay in Earth…
What music have you recorded and released to date?
My first single “Space Drifter Symphony” for my 3rd album was released on April 26, and with a few other singles due for release after. Then finally on July 26, my 3rd album (Name will either be “The Space Drifter” or “Earth”) will be released…
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
I’m listening to new wave bands like “A-Ha” at the moment…fell in love with Synthesizers LOL!
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
I would like collaborate with new rock bands like Greta Van Fleet because I know important it is to keep Rock ‘n’ Roll alive!
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future will be…well, finish elementary school to go to high school to form a rock band and to keep Rock’n Roll alive cause you know, it feels like time…
