One 2 Three Friday 28/4/23 The religious elements in the Coronation service.

The religious elements in the Coronation service.
One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

Rosie talked about the significant religious elements within the coronation that would have always been part of the service and would be recognised by monarchs down the ages. .

She told us that in the procession in Westminster Abbey the first item that will be seen is the Welsh cross. This has been made specifically for this occasion. It includes a gift from Pope Francis with two slithers of wood said to be from ‘the true cross’, the cross on which Jesus was crucified. This is set within the cross. The service will have a different feel from previous coronations, with the invitations to attend sent to members of the public who have distinguished themselves by serving their communities through volunteering or charity work. Rosie also told us that she will soon be leaving her post as Chaplain to the Bishop of Chelmsford to be a Residentiary Canon at Chester Cathedral, where she will have responsibility for the worship.
