Father and son ex-professional footballers set for new show

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We’ve had lots of local sports programming recently with our award-winning cricket podcast, 98 Not Out, our regular Leyton Orient show The Orient Hour and of course our regular Sport show every Saturday. We’ve recently added to this with the Non-League Hour every Thursday evening.

We’ve still managed to expand this even further with a brand new show coming to Phoenix FM next week. Former professional footballs Rob Lee and Olly Lee have teamed up with our sports presenter John Chubb to create a new talk show, Football FamiLEE.

Rob is a former England international who has been capped 21 times, scoring 2 goals. He’s also racked up 703 games, mostly for Charlton Athletic and Newcastle United, but also for Derby County, West Ham United and Wycombe Wanderers.

Rob’s son Olly is also a former professional footballer who started as a youth team player at West Ham, and went on to play over 300 matches for Luton Town, Hearts, Birmingham City, Gillingham, Barnet and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Olly and Rob now run the Lee Football Academy which has regular training matches at Brentwood School, working with small groups of aspiring young footballers to bring out the best in their abilities.

The Lees are clearly a talented bunch, as Rob’s other son and Olly’s brother Elliott is still playing too. You might have seen him on TV scoring the winning goal for Wrexham against Notts County, and if you have been keeping up with what’s happening at the north Wales club you’ll know they now have millions of new followers around the world.

We’re delighted to have Rob and Olly’s wealth of experience on the station. There can’t be many father and son combos with over 1,000 league games between them, so they will have plenty to talk about.
