AMBITIOUS Brentwood Bowling Club are staging an exciting Bowls Bonanza on Bank Holiday Monday, May 8 (12 noon – 5 pm) as part of Brentwood Council’s FREE Coronation Festival in the Park celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III.
The Bonanza will be open to ALL members of the public who are invited to come along and try their hand at lawn bowling at Brentwood’s well-equipped headquarters in King George’s Playing Fields, Ingrave Road, Brentwood, CM13 2AQ.
There will be Target Bowls and other fun competitions with prizes, expert tuition and refreshments available as the go-ahead Bowling Club, which incorporates Central Essex Bowling Club, aim to build on their excellent 20 per cent increase in individual membership last season.
Club chairman Bob Theobald said: “We are a very friendly club and this is the perfect way for people of all ages who have never tried lawn bowling to give it a go. Please come along as you are guaranteed a very warm welcome.
“All equipment will be supplied and coaching and advice will be given by experienced club members.
I am sure it will be a great afternoon.
“The 20 per cent increase in membership was particularly satisfying and was just reward for all the hard work put in by club members. The 2023 season has just started and our club is certainly looking forward to the future with great optimism.”
The Bowling Club was invited by Brentwood Borough Council to join in their free Coronation Festival in the Park which will feature a range of free sports to try out, plus bands, a choir, charity and voluntary stalls, family activities and hot and cold refreshments.
On the same day (Monday, May 8) the club will be holding a Coronation Cup triples competition which is open to all club members.
If you can’t get along on Monday, May 8, the club also have FREE taster sessions for any new bowlers who wish to turn up and have a go EVERY Thursday morning (10 am – 12 noon). All equipment and coaching will be supplied.
And in a busy schedule, the club will be holding a special Open Weekend on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 (10 am – 4 pm both days). Once again anyone can turn up and see if they enjoy lawn bowling.
Chairman Theobald added: “We are offering plenty of opportunities for anyone to try this wonderful sport of ours. It is most certainly a sport for all ages.”
Brentwood BC was formed in 1908 and is affiliated to Bowls England, Essex County Bowling Associations and various local and regional associations.
