The spoils were shared in a 0-0 draw between West Ham United Women and Liverpool Women at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. One point and one place seperated the two teams before kick-off, in West Ham’s favour, but neither were able to make significant changes in the table.
Paul Konchesky’s side had the first chance of the game when Lisa Evans crossed to Dagný Brynjarsdóttir whose header was unable to find the target. The visitors were growing into proceedings and soon after, they should have taken the lead when Yana Daniëls’ effort went wide.
Liverpool nearly opened the scoring on the hour as Ceri Holland’s powerful cross from the left flew across the box but nobody in white was there to meet it.
Despite it being an uneventful affair, the last few minutes were a thrilling watch. Brynjarsdóttir’s low cross allegedly hit the hand of Emma Koivisto but those claims were waved away by referee Jane Simms.
The Reds had a chance of their own in the dying embers, Shanice van de Sanden crossed to Katie Stengel but Grace Fisk was there with a vital block to prevent the visitors from scoring a winner.
Heading into the international break, West Ham remain in seventh while Liverpool are one place behind them in eighth. A draw was a fair outcome, however, both teams had chances to take the three points but they couldn’t find that clinical finishing touch.
