Back in March 2015 I had the enormous pleasure of welcoming Yester’ukes into the studio for a live music session and entertaining chat with the band.
Yester’ukes are essentially a fine Ukulele band, performing classics from the 1920s, 30s 40s & 50s. I think they are still performing, albeit with a slightly different line up.
Yesterday I got a message from Alan Thatcher, one of the original members of the band who left them a few years ago when he moved away from the area. Alan Said –
“Hi Bob, hope you are well. I don’t know if you heard but John from Yester’Ukes passed away suddenly just over a year ago. One of the songs that he used to sing for us was It’s Only A Paper Moon so I thought I’d start playing it in his memory. I got round to recording it with a fiddle playing friend – finished it yesterday. Thought you might like to hear it.”
The John in question was John Scammell, a great character and snappy dresser. I was sorry to hear the news. So as a tribute to John, here’s Alan Thatcher and Fiona, better known as AL-FI and It’s Only a Paper Moon!
