Studio guests throw spotlight on how town’s food bank is helping

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We had a visit last week from Jim Rose and Steve Jordan from Billericay Foodbank to tell us all about their fundraising ceilidh.

When I see the word ceilidh I always think of the very spit-and-sawdust pub I went to in Stirling a long time ago where I was offered a free drink by the barman if I could pronounce the word correctly.  Luckily I’d been tipped off by one of the locals who had helpfully put Kayleigh by Marillion on the jukebox just before I was asked.  I never thought I’d see a ceilidh as far south as Billericay though.

Jim and Steve came in to see Bob Simpson on his regular One 2 Three lunchtime show.  Bob has been presenting shows on Phoenix FM since 2011 and he is also one of the fantastic volunteers at the foodbank.

Steve is also involved with The Mayflower Morris Men of Billericay and the two organisations have got together to arrange the event at the Canon Roach Pastoral Centre in Billericay which will provide some much-needed funds.

He also brought along his melodeon and gave us a tune in the studio!

You can hear the interview again at www.phoenixfm.com and Billericay Foodbank has an official web page at https://www.billericaychurches.org/sjd/services-and-activities/food-bank.html.
