Joni Mitchell – Chelsea morning. 1969 single release. Inspired by her room in Chelsea district of New York City.  Later featured on her second album – Clouds.

Rocketman cast 2019, featuring Taron Egerton – Crocodile rock. The original was Elton John’s first USA no 1 in 1973, UK no 5.

Stevie Wonder –Heaven help us all – 1970 USA no 9, UK no 29, from the album – Signed, sealed, delivered. 

Jason Mraz – Good old daze – from the 2020 album – Looking for the good.

Brian Downey, drummer with Thin Lizzy, is 72 years old. We heard the Thin Lizzy track – Whisky in the jar. Their version of this traditional Irish song was a 1972 UK no 2, Ireland no 1 and no 6 in Germany.

Roddy Frame is a founder member of Aztec Camera. He is 59 years old. We heard the band’s 1988 UK no 3 – Somewhere in my heart. This track is from their album – Love – UK no 10 and USA no 193!

Harry Styles recently celebrated his 29th birthday.  We heard – Treat people with kindness. This track peaked at no 27 in the UK charts in 2019, being the sixth single to be released from the album – Fine line. This album is number 491 in The Rolling Stone 500 Greatest albums of all time.

Thanks to Chris, Bob, Sarah and Siany in Harlow,  Yvonne in Wolverhampton, Chris in Guildford and everyone for taking part. Patrick was our winner today with six points.

Patrick requested Church Berry – You never can tell – 1964 UK no 23, USA no 11, Belgium no 9.

Bob in Harlow loves the music of the Beach Boys. We heard the 1968 UK no 33 – Bluebirds over the mountain.

For regular listener Chris in Guildford, who loves the music of Dave Edmunds, we had his version of a country classic – The race is on. From the 1981 album – Twangin – Dave backed by The Stray cats on the track.

Marvin Gaye – God is love – from the 1971 album – What’s going on? In the 202o Rolling Stone 500 Greatest albums of all time it is no 1.

No 2 Ian Dury and the Blockheads – Hit me with your rhythm stick. UK no 1, Austria no 2, New Zealand no 3, Ireland no 3, Norway no 7, Sweden no 9. The track has sold 1.29 million copies.

No 4. The Village People – Y.M.C.A. – UK no 1 and in 14 more countries. USA and Norway no 2.

No 15 Billy Joel – My life – UK no 12, USA no 13. From the album – The Stranger – USA no 2, UK no 24. His best selling non-compilation album, having sold 10+million copies.

It has featured in the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest albums of all time.

Remembering ‘The day the music died’ on 3rd of February 1959 with the passing of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper in a pane crash.
