Artist Feature: Marley Sales

You have have heard us playing GIRLS by MARLEY SALES recently on Phoenix FM – and we caught up with Marley to find out more about his life and music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I started off as a West London-based music producer with a small following on SoundCloud, featuring tracks with notable artists such as Arlo Parks, Ashbeck and El Londo.

After three years of studying at the Northern Film School, it was at university where I found the time to begin shaping my sound from Britpop, Indie and Alternative Rap, developing into an artist with a unique and distinctive style.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I taught myself to make beats on Logic when I was 15, and listened to lots of hip hop and rock growing up.

Which artists inspire you?

Eminem, Prophet from Gang Starr, Slick Rick, MF Doom, Kendrick and lots of old school underground hip hop. Broken Bells and Danger Mouse who is a favourite producer of rock/hip hop.

I also love UK rap like The Streets, Baxter Dury and Gorillaz, and Britpop and rock like Bloc Party, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys. All of these influence my work.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I would describe my music as a blend of all the best sounds from indie rock and hip hop/rap with a West London (British) twist, catchy hooks and heartfelt storytelling.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

All of my music released to date can be found on my Spotify:

https://open.spotify.com/artist/1jUFHzLRO7KJqYxxa0LWqS?si=kZ6yHO6JTiejDG-Q0G8E2w

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

My dream collaboration would be with Hot Chip or Damon Albarn right now.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to release a debut album and to keep developing my sound.
