Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette
Christmas is a wonderful time for many people but it’s also a very stressful time for millions of people too, particularly this year as we are all feeling the pinch.
We invited in Graham Headley from Brentwood Christians Against Poverty, who spoke on air to Patrick Sherring about the pressures that people are feeling at this time of year due to the financial crisis and how this is heightened by expectations around Christmas.
Graham gave a useful list of tips for avoiding debt by not overspending on presents and provisions for Christmas celebrations. He also recommended some websites and podcasts which can also help.
Sawyers Church in Sawyers Hall Lane is currently working in partnership with Christians Against Poverty in running a Debt Centre for the Brentwood Community and surrounding area.
Christians Against Poverty now has over 300 centres and 800 affiliated churches, is non-judgemental and open to everyone, regardless of their faith, and the assistance offered is completely free.
