Trigger warning – the following contains references to themes of mental health, self harming and suicide, which some individuals may find distressing.’

If you are experiencing difficult thoughts call Samaritans Helpline Number 116-123 or in an emergency call 999.

We are hearing of suicides and mental health problems on a weekly and sometimes daily basis these days.

Today, Lisa Bates and Melanie Leahy came into the studio to tell us about their experience and the campaign they are running. Two mums who lost their loved ones in very tragic circumstances. What they had to say was truly shocking.

Melanie Leahy has spearheaded a 10 year campaign for a statutory public inquiry into Essex Mental Health services following the tragic death of her son, Matthew. Lisa Bates joined the campaign after the death of her daughter Tillie. Both died while under the care of Essex Mental Health Services.

You can listen to our conversation here –

They have received support across the county from similarly affected parents, David and Carrie Grant, Dr Rosina Allin-Khan (Shadow Cabinet Member for Mental Health) Health professionals and many others.
