Souvenirs that can kill

Often when you go somewhere that you’ll probably never go back to you might want to grab a few souvenirs.

Well it seems that some Russian soldiers who went to Chernobyl thought it might be a good idea to grab a few trophies.

Unfortunately for them it seems that they may have collected around 133 highly radioactive substances with them.

Oh dear!

According to the State Agency of Ukraine Exclusion Zone Management, “Carrying such a souvenir with you for two weeks will inevitably lead to radiation burns, radiation sickness and irreversible processes in the body.”

“After a month of such exposure, they will probably have a maximum of one year of life left and more likely a slow death from diseases.”

They will probably glow gently in the dark.

Returning to a very different era Margaret Mills took us back to Elizabethan England – more specifically to the Tudors and Queen Elizabeth I and her visits to Essex.

See you again next week,
