The great fire of Radwinter

Of course, being a Tuesday I was joined once more by Margaret Mills who this week turned her attention to a massive fire that destroyed much of the village of Radwinter on May 1st 1874.

Clearly this event occurred before the days of fire brigades and the like.

The fire ultimately destroyed no less than 24 properties at a time when insurance did not exist so one can but imagine the effects of this disaster on the inhabitants.

Listen here to Margaret’s account of this tragedy:-

Look forward to catching up with you again next time,
Scott
