Now hard to believe but it’s true that Google Map’s automatic software has started blurring out dog’s faces on their street view maps in order to “protect their privacy”.
A Google statement reads: “When we create Street View content from 360 video recordings submitted by users, we apply our algorithms to automatically blur faces and license plates.”
They went on, “The world is constantly changing, and so is the way we get around in it. And as it does, Google Maps will be there every step of the way, building new tools that help you navigate, explore and get things done, wherever you are.”
Someone pointed out that dogs actually recognise each other from their butts so perhaps Google will now be considering launching some new bum deal algorithm.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see – time will tell!
Of course, being a Tuesday I was joined once more by Margaret Mills who this week turned her attention to a massive fire that destroyed much of the village of Radwinter on May 1st 1874.
Clearly this event occurred before the days of fire brigades and the like.
The fire ultimately destroyed no less than 24 properties at a time when insurance did not exist so one can but imagine the effects of this disaster on the inhabitants.
Listen here to Margaret’s account of this tragedy:-
Look forward to catching up with you again next time,
Scott
