Want a burger in Russia? The sky’s the limit!

Now as we know a number of western companies have pulled out of Russia due to the current situation in Ukraine.

Inevitably this has resulted in a bit of a backlash from the Russians who, for example have apparently suggested that Russian branded restaurants should take over the 850 locations used by McDonalds.

Speaker of the lower house of parliament – the State Duma has suggested that jobs must be preserved and prices lowered and that therefore the restaurants should be re-opened under the name UNCLE VANYA – a name taken from a Chekhov play written in 1898.

The logo chosen for this exciting new venture appears to be M tipped sideways with a line drawn on it to make it look like a B instead, whilst maintaining the original red and yellow colours.

Presumably they will have to use their own ingredients so I wonder how the changes will be accepted by diners.

Before the real thing closed its doors for the last time one man reportedly lashed out £115 for 50 cheeseburgers.

Clearly some customers were taking no chances and grabbed whole loads of meals and have started selling them at grossly inflated prices – £46 for a meal with 2 burgers, 2 drinks and a cherry pie whilst a Coke will now set you back £8.

Another seller listed a four burger dinner meal with nuggets and dipping sauce for a whopping £250.

The not-so Happy Meals were snapped up in the final hours of McDonald’s Russia being open, with desperate people lining up for nearly a kilometre to get their hands on one last burger.

Video footage appeared on social media that showed car after car lining up in a Moscow drive-thru.

Meanwhile potentially heading to pastures new is the Russian President himself, Vladimir Putin as a website has been launched which aims to collect sufficient donations to blast him off to the planet Jupiter.

Amazingly they’ve already raked in $2m out of the $100m target. Partly in view of the fact that it might prove difficult to actually get hold of the possibly unwilling passenger, and complaints from some donors asking what Jupiter has done to deserve being delivered of this cargo, the funds will actually be used to help the Ukrainian armed forces and re-build the infrastructure destroyed in the conflict.

It now appears that the website is actually the brainchild of the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of the Ukrainian government.

Be interesting to see how much more money they secure.

Well there you go – the ultimate in private free enterprise, perhaps.

Staying on earth I hope to see you again tomorrow,
Scott
