During this week’s show Leyton Orient of EFL League Two, having sacked manager Kenny Jackett after a dismal run of form played their first match under the caretaker stewardship of Matt Harrold.

But the change didn’t bring about an immediate turnaround of fortunes, as the O’s were defeated 1-0 at home by fellow strugglers Carlisle United.

In the National League Dagenham & Redbridge slumped to a 3-0 defeat away to Altrincham, but Southend United continued their fine unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw against Solihull Moors at Roots Hall.

It was a disappointing afternoon for all four of our local National League South sides Billericay Town, Braintree Town, Chelmsford City and Concord Rangers, all of whom lost.

But it was a good day at last for Isthmian Premier League outfit East Thurrock United, who ended a run of seven games without a win and moved off the foot of the table as Johnny Ashman’s late goal gave them a 1-0 win at home to Carshalton Athletic.

Our featured non-League match saw disappointment for Isthmian North promotion hopefuls Brentwood Town, who were defeated 1-0 by Felixstowe & Walton United at the Brentwood Centre Arena although other results ensured Rod Stringer’s side remained in the play-off spots.
