A high old time was had by all!

Now here’s a story of a high old time had by postal staff in Clapham, South East London.

It seems that a package marked, ‘Edibles by Pablo Chocobar’ had been sent to an empty property but with no return address the package was held in the sorting office for a month, after which the decision was taken to share the contents amongst the staff, who blissfully unaware that the package actually contained cannabis, tucked in with gusto to the bonus offering between 5:30 and 7:30am.

A little bit later on postmen were seen to be staggering with trolleys in the road.

One beneficiary subsequently found slumped in a chair admitted that he’d eaten 4 of the goodies.

The Royal Mail has now said it had launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson added, “Royal Mail expects the highest standards of behaviour from our people at all times. We are taking this matter very seriously.

“We have commenced an investigation which will determine whether any further action, including disciplinary action, might be taken.

“We are also reminding all staff at the delivery office of the correct procedures for dealing with items with no address for delivery or return.”

Well there you go!

Later in the show I was joined by Margaret Mills for her historical feature which this week focussed on Queen Mary, also known as Mary Tudor and by her Protestant opponents as “Bloody Queen Mary” and especially her links with Essex.

Queen Mary is best known for her attempts at reversing the English Reformation, which had begun during the reign of her father, HENRY VIII and her attempts at restoring property to the Church which had been confiscated during the previous two reigns.

During her 5 years on the throne she oversaw the burning of over 280 religious dissenters.

I hope to see you once again next week,
Scott
