Today we reported on an incident which must surely be one for the record books.
An 84-year old man was pulled over in Nottingham by police, who were shocked to discover that although he had been driving since the age of 12 he had never held a driving licence or any insurance!
Fortunately, he had never been involved in an accident.
He was finally caught when his number plate was flagged by an automatic number plate recognition camera.
With all the cameras around, the question is how on earth did he manage to get away with it for so long – he had been driving since 1950.
And how on earth did he get round all the documentation you need to buy a car in the first place?
Police reported that the man’s reactions were poor, he was very unsteady on his feet and was potentially not safe to have been on the road even had he been road legal.
Someone who’s always legal is Margaret Mills and she joined me in the second hour of today’s programme to talk about a man from Saffron Walden who constructed the first Eddystone Lighthouse after losing two of his ships on the Eddystone rocks.
His name was Henry Winstanley who lived between 1644 and 1703
Unfortunately for him, he met his untimely end whilst working on the project during the Great Storm on the 26th November in 1703.
Listen here to what Margaret told me about the works of this remarkable man: –
See you again next time,
