Standon Calling announce 2022 line-up

Standon Calling festival reveals its strongest and most eclectic lineup to date, announcing huge main stage headliners Anne-Marie, Loyle Carner, and Primal Scream today. Joining the previously announced Madness – who are set to appear as the festival’s first ever Thursday headliner – the rest of the line up is packed with some of the best in pop, rock, indie, hip hop, electronic and dance music with the likes of Craig David Presents TS5, Sigrid, Annie Mac, Sleaford Mods, Sugababes and many more besides. With this news the festival looks ahead to its biggest year within its stunning Hertfordshire home, following on from an incredible successful and joyful sold out 2021 show that took place on “freedom weekend”.

True to its inclusive and diverse nature, featuring the best acts across the board in music and entertainment, Standon delivers above and beyond for its 16th edition this summer. Anne-Marie, the effervescent pop star from neighbouring Essex, will perform one of her first major headline spots at Standon Calling. With hits like ‘Rockabye’, ‘2022’ and her latest collaboration with One Direction’s Niall Horan, she’ll have the whole crowd singing along from start to finish.

The one and only Loyle Carner performed at Standon Calling back in 2018, and is now seen rising to the top of the bill for his return to Standon Lordship this July. Bringing his own unmistakable and universally adored brand of UK hip hop, Loyle’s charismatic and heartfelt display will etch itself into the everlasting memories of a blissful festival weekend. Closing the final night are one of the all time greats, Primal Scream, who take their long-awaited chance to entertain the crowds with their glittering back catalogue of genre bending psych-rock. Led by the man, the myth, the legend – Bobby Gillespie – expect an iconic and endlessly enigmatic set full of festival favourites.

Across multiple stages of music, comedy, late night DJs and a whole host of family entertainment, parades and more, Standon Calling is revealing an enormous wealth of talent today. Feel-good UK garage hits from Craig David Presents TS5 will perfectly compliment Sigrid’s uplifting Scandi bangers, whilst the fascinating American performer, singer and songwriter John Grant, and the ever euphoric Example, serve up shows for the ages. Plus an extra special treat this summer will be the return of the ultimate British girl band Sugababes!

Head over to Laundry Meadows and discover the hottest new music and most exhilarating alternative acts for 2022. Topping this much loved stage you’ll find the punky and raw social commentary from Nottingham duo Sleaford Mods and the uncompromising and potent modern poet Kojey Radical. Meanwhile the woman behind 2021’s most critically acclaimed album Self-Esteem is set to deliver a triumphant set filled with empowering, honest pop within a stunning choreographed stage display.

Yard Act – the post-punk band from Leeds who stormed the charts with their debut album In January – sit alongside the likes of BBC Sound of 2022 shortlisted rapper Enny, the convention-blurring techno producer Kelly Lee Owens, and the Sex Education soundtrack master Ezra Furman. These join the likes of rising ‘no-waver’ Billy Nomates, queer avant-pop performer Lynks, visceral Newcastle rock band Pigs x7, Gen-Z’s Irish country pop sensation CMAT – making up the most intoxicating mix of who’s who in 2022. And if that’s not enough, Standon Calling is excited to reveal a very special guest live set from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’s Bimini!

No Standon weekend would be complete without an array of legendary sets to carry the good times through. Take it back to the Earth, Wind & Fire Experience ft. Al McKay and get the party started with Basement Jaxx (DJs), renowned DJ and broadcaster Annie Mac and hip hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash. Get lost in a world of Dub Pistols, DJ Yoda and Trojan Sound System, and seriously let loose to LOGIC1000Jamz SupernovaIndia Jordan and more.

In and amongst the music and parties, Standon Calling is renowned for its wholesome family fun, with all manner of entertainment for kids and spirited adults alike. Announcing a brilliant Story –  Who let The Toys Out? – the toys are back in town this year and causing chaos and hijinks roaming across the festival site – don’t miss this in the annual Saturday costume parade. In and around the fun and the games, expect another beloved annual fixture The Standon Calling Dog Show with festival partner Barking Heads, alongside Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors, the Dick & Dom DJ Battle and Mr Motivator MBE, as well as the Flying SeagullsRhubarb Theatre and Cosmic Crafting. On top of an incredible choice of food and drink, where else can you take a refreshing dip in the full size swimming pool, or relax in a hot tub, before delving into the wild wellbeing programme offering yoga and workshops? The magic of Standon Calling lies in this immersive world of boutique delights.

Standon Calling continues to deliver an unrivalled experience for every section of the Standon fanbase and family, and this inclusive spirit is celebrated and reflected throughout the line up. With more announcements still to come, Standon Calling continues the festival’s positive steps towards their Keychange gender parity pledge this year. As part of this commitment, Standon Calling are revealing an all-female / non-binary line up for both Electric Willows on Friday night and Laundry Meadows on Sunday.

Speaking about today’s line up announcement, and the overall focus for Standon Calling’s exciting future, Festival Founder and Director Alex Trenchard says “After the joy of bringing everyone together against the odds in 2021 we could not be more pleased to share this unbelievable line up for 2022. So many incredible artists are coming to Standon for the very first time, and with each year we get to enjoy this magical weekend with new and old friends from all around the UK! Standon Calling really is for everyone and this year we’re excited to bring you our most eclectic line up to date!”
