A dead man walking and a strange supermarket purchase

For my final show in January we looked at the strange case of the dead man being dragged to the post office to collect his pension, whilst at the other end of the scale we reported on the woman who tried to buy a child in a supermarket.

You couldn’t make it up if you tried, could you?

But both stories are totally true!

First stop was in Ireland where a dead man was reportedly taken into a post office in an attempt to claim his pension.

The deceased was reportedly carried up to the counter by two other men.

Apparently, a man called at the post office earlier to collect a pension on behalf of his uncle but was told that the recipient had to be present, and so with the help of a companion, he returned a short time later with the deceased.

When the group approached the counter, a “concerned staff member enquired about the wellbeing of the man being propped up”, reported the Irish Times.

It’s believed one of the men told a staff member: “Ah, he’s grand, we’re going to bring him down to the hospital once we get the money.”

At that point, the men dropped the man and left the post office without receiving any money, following which police and an ambulance arrived at the scene and declared that the man was in fact dead!

It has now been established that the deceased was Peadar Doyle, who was 66 years old and lived in a house nearby. A post mortem has since confirmed that he died of natural causes.

Declan Haughney, 40 who lived with his uncle Peadar Doyle claimed that his uncle must have passed away during the walk to the post office saying that, “He was walking like normal and then started dragging his heels and went all slumpy.”

“We thought nothing of it because Peadar had had heart attacks and all.”

He then said that they let him go at the post office counter and it was only after he dropped to the floor that they realised he’d died.

Mr Haughney, said he believes he is being falsely accused of trying to claim his uncle’s pension because he previously stole from his aunt and served two years in prison.

He said: “Why would I want to rob my uncle?

“I’m 40 years of age yeah, I’m not a child, I’m not a young fella.

“I’m not an idiot to walk into the post office with a dead man and collect his money.

“Am I cuckoo? Am I cuckoo? I’m not.”

Enquiries are continuing!

Meanwhile over in the States a won from Texas, Rebecca Lanette Taylor has just been arrested and charged with trying to buy a child at her local Walmart for $500,000 – (£370,912).

The 49-year-old allegedly approached a mother-of-two in a self-checkout queue at Walmart in Crockett, Texas on 13 January.

The mother, who has not been named, had her one-year-old son in the shopping trolley and her baby in a car seat.

Taylor reportedly commented on one of the children’s blonde hair and blue eyes before asking “how much she could purchase him for”

She then told the woman she had $250,000 (£185,456) in her car and would be willing to pay that for him, but the mother “told her no amount of money would do”.

“Taylor said that he was the perfect fit and she had been wanting to buy a baby for a long time now,”

After telling Taylor to stay away from her son, the mother said she was asked by another woman, who was with the accused, what her child’s name was but she refused to tell her.

However, the pair seemed to already know his name and started “calling him” by name.

The two women then left the store and the mother started heading towards her car.

As the mother approached the car park, they began shouting at her and Taylor stood behind a black SUV next to the mother’s vehicle before upping the ante to $500,000 for the child “because she wanted him and she was going to take him”.

Eventually, she got into a black car and drove off.

Police said CCTV footage from the store matched the mother’s account.

Taylor has since been was released from Houston County Jail on bond but could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

Totally amazing!
