Ian Kemble from the Brentwood School’s Christin Worker Trust (BSCWT) talked about the sessions that the trust had organised for schools to enable child to think about Christmas and how the story of the birth of Jesus relates to their lives. He reminded us that the phrase do not be afraid occurs on three occasions. This led the pupils to consider what makes them afraid. He also helped them to consider haw that could make time for peace over the Christmas period. The idea of peace was continued with the Christmas message from Bishop Guli, the Bishop of Chelmsford. Reflecting on the words of the carol It cam upon the midnight clear, she wrote about how the noise of the world and of our own internal worries can take away our peace. The carol has the image of a world falling silent in the middle of the night to hear the angles singing to shepherd on a hillside outside Bethlehem, telling about the birth of Jesus, the long promised Messiah. She ended her reflection that she hoped we could all find at least a few moments to pause and reflect on the true heart of Christmas.
