The best thing for me about community radio is that we’re not constrained by formats and playlists in the same way that commercial radio is. Our mission is to play anything and everything, as long as it’s great music.
Sunday afternoons are a great example of this – our jazz presenter Keith Ball has just passed a milestone after broadcasting his 50th show for us.
Keith’s show – Having A Ball – currently airs between 2pm and 4pm on Sundays. He’s been joined on his show by famous musicians such as Rick Wakeman, Paul Carrack and Patti Boulaye, along with stalwarts of our local jazz scene incluing Digby Fairweather, Roy Mette and Joanna Eden.
We’re hoping for lots more of the same in 2022 as Keith looks to interview more talented musicians.
Keith is also a jazz performer in his own right, continuing on his famous father Kenny’s band. Kenny found fame in 1961 when his song Midnight in Moscow became an international hit, selling over a million copies worldwide.
All of Keith’s shows can be heard again at www.phoenixfm.com/category/having-a-ball.
