Determined Dominic’s programme to help kids with mental health issues

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

The concern about mental health issues is something that we regularly highlight on air.

The official waiting list for NHS mental health care currently stands at 1,600,000 people, including 374,000 under the age of 18.

Brentwood resident Dominic Fenton is hoping to help with his Family Therapy and Activity crowdfunder.

Dominic came in to talk to Michelle Ward on air about his programme, which he wrote around six years ago when he was undergoing his own tough times. He says the biggest issue was feeling isolated and not knowing who to talk to.

He is now working in partnership with Liz Rotherham of Heads2Minds who will run the therapy side of the new programme; Dominic and his team at Multi-sports for Schools will run the activity side of the pilot.

The pilot aims to involve 10 families where the child may struggle with their mental health and offer group therapy.

You can hear Dominic’s interview again at phoenixfm.com and also visit his crowdfunder at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/Family-Therapy-and-Activity.
