In Football it was a Saturday to remember for West Ham United, as they recovered from the recent rocky patch of form to beat leaders Chelsea 3-2 at the London Stadium in the Premier League.
Thiago Silva gave the West Londoners the lead in the 28th minute before West Ham won a 40th minute penalty, which was scored by Manuel Lanzini.
England international Mason Mount gave Chelsea a 2-1 half-time lead a minute before the interval, with a superb strike.
But the Hammers fought back in the second period, Jarrod Bowen equalising 11 minutes into the second period before Arthur Masuaku’s misdirected 87th minute cross gave the Hammers a rather bizarre 87th minute winner, which strengthened his side’s position in fourth place.
In the second round of the FA Cup, Leyton Orient booked their place in the next stage with a superb 4-0 victory at home to fellow EFL League Two outfit Tranmere Rovers, thanks to goals from Harry Smith (2), Omar Beckles and an Aaron Drinan penalty.
Kenny Jackett’s O’s have been drawn away to Championship side Stoke City in the third round.
In the National League, Dagenham & Redbridge put their recent poor run behind them with a 3-2 win against high-flyers Grimsby Town at Victoria Road, thanks to goals from Dean Rance, Ibby Akanbi and Angelo Balanta.
In the National League South, honours were shared in an all-Essex affair at the Aspect Arena where hosts Concord Rangers drew 2-2 with struggling Braintree Town.
Also in the NLS, there was more woe for bottom club Billericay Town who slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to league leaders Dartford.
Our featured match saw Brentwood Town continue their superb unbeaten run in the Isthmian North under the management of Rod Stringer, as they triumphed 4-0 at managerless Witham Town.
Tom Richardson helped himself to a hat-trick, with Blues’ other goal coming from Andrew Freeman.
In local Rugby, the big match in London 3 Essex was a meeting between the two sides who before Saturday were the only unbeaten ones in the division, as Dagenham hosted Harlow.
The home side consigned the visitors to their first league reversal of the season and replaced them in the top spot, with a 22-16 victory.
