We’ve been playing out Other Side from Stéphieeh (pronounced Stephie) on various shows on Phoenix FM recently – bot who is Stéphieeh? We caught up with her to find out a little bit more about her life and music.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I’ve been singing my whole life. Growing up, my sister used to write songs for me and I’d go around the house singing the songs to pretty much anyone and I used to sing in church sometimes.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I’m now based in London but I grew up in a French-speaking country, so I grew up listening to Celine Dion. My influence started changing in my teenage years, and I started listening to R’n’B and hip hop, although I couldn’t understand what they were saying.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

My lyrics are deep but they’re fun and upbeat.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I’ve only been writing for a year or so and now I enjoy doing so. I wrote Other Side and the beat is by Rebbel.

This is my first ever single; I hope to record more and release in the near future

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I haven’t been listening to anyone really because I’ve been in my element, writing and I wanted to concentrate.

But before this, I was still listening to a lot of French songs so Dadju, Keblack and Aya were my top artists.

In the English-speaking world, I would listen to Beyoncé, 50 Cent and Eminem.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly who has influenced my work as I’ve been listening to so many artists over the years. But I love how Eminem writes so I can say he’s been quite influential in my writing skills overall but not so much on this song per se.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

It would be Stormzy, Eminem, 50 Cent, Keblack, Celine Dion, Ed Sheeran or Aya. I love these artists so working with either one of them some day would be a dream come true.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m planning to take music more seriously so I’m working towards doing this full time. Music is my soul so I can’t think of anything else to do. I’ve written so many songs so I’m keen to see what the future holds.
