Purple lights for World Pancreatic Cancer Day on 18th November – Tina & Jason’s story

Ahead of Monday’s Drive I caught up with Tina Assenheim for a chat about the work she’s been doing to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and fundraise for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Tina spoke powerfully and bravely about how she recently lost her husband, Jason to pancreatic cancer and is on a mission to raise awareness of the disease that can often be difficult to diagnose early enough and is in need of much funding and research to improve diagnosis and prognosis. Tina talked to us about some of the events going on this World Pancreatic Cancer Day on 18th November and how you can get involved to help raise awareness or seek more information. We also covered Jason’s great sense of humour, his love of Rocky and football as a lifelong West Ham fan. To find out more, click play in the box below and listen to the full interview.

Tina has managed to arrange for a huge amount of places and monuments to light up purple as part of events to mark World Pancreatic Cancer Day on Thursday 18th November. You can take part too by lighting up your home or workplace purple after dark this week or if you spot anywhere on your travels then she’d love to see your photos uploaded on social media and www.purplelightsuk.org. You can also meet Tina and her friends at The Royals Shopping Centre in Southend on 18th November where you can support her fundraising efforts for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

As with so many illnesses, it is vitally important to diagnose pancreatic cancer as early as possible so if you are concerned about yourself or anyone you may know visit www.pancreaticcancer.org.uk for more information and support.
