Recently, a study was published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science that revealed what the most affectionate dog breeds of all time are. The top 3 spots were occupied by Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds with the number one spot going to Labradors. These dog breeds generally show their love and affection towards their humans by licking, snuggling, and cuddling which is what makes them such fantastic family dogs. This article will explore what makes these top 3 breeds so loving and why they are such amazing additions to any family who lives an active lifestyle or have children.


Also commonly known as the Groodle, the Goldendoodle is a crossbreed of a Golden Retriever and a poodle. These dogs are bred in different sizes and are very fluffy in appearance. They come in multiple colors including cream, red, gold, black, apricot, white, brown, or a combination of all mentioned and if you think this is the breed for you then you can get one of these beauties on They typically weigh between 6.8-36-3kg and they have a long-haired coat. Irish wolfhounds have a lifespan of 6-10 years and their temperament is dignified, sweet-tempered, loyal, patient, and thoughtful. Ranked number 19 as the most popular pure-breed dog in the US, The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small breed of dog with distinctly long and floppy ears and this breed originated in the United Kingdom. The maximum mass for an adult of this breed is 8.2kg with a maximum height of 13 inches. You can find this dog in many colors including black & tan, Blenheim, tri-color, and ruby. Their temperament is playful, affectionate, sociable, fearless, graceful, adaptable, and gentle. These dogs are gentle and sweet and are very friendly, even with strangers. These dogs also love to cuddle in the early morning and before bedtime.

Great Danes

The Great Dane is a breed from Germany and they are descendants of hunting dogs from medieval times. These dogs are larger in size, typically growing up to 86cm in height and about 90kg in weight. They come in the colors black, blue, mantle, brindle, fawn, and harlequin. Their temperament is friendly, devoted, loving, gentle, reserved, and confident. They are very popular family pets and they are big fans of cuddles and playtime. American Pit Bull Terrier

This dog has a nasty reputation and many associate this breed with being aggressive and deadly, especially towards children. This is not necessarily the case and if raised correctly, they are very affectionate, friendly, loyal, obedient, stubborn, strong-willed, and clownish. They come in the colors white, black, grey, blue, brown, red, tan, fawn and brindle. Pitbulls are said to be extremely affectionate and can form very strong emotional bonds with their owners that are unbreakable. These dogs are also considered too people-friendly to be guard dogs however they are extremely protective, especially of the children in their families.
