We’ve been playlisting Velvet 100’s track Late Flight Out on various shows recently – but who is Velvet 100? We caught up with him to find out …

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I grew up in the Midwest, USA and am a only child of parents who love music of all kinds, that was my intro to what resonated with me. I had a full scholarship to textile and interior design, decided not to go and kept on with my original band at the time. So to this day I enjoy all things good taste and good music!

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

Extremely young according to my mom. banging on pots and pans as well as laying on a blanket listen to the radio for hours. I guess you could say from day 1!

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I had lots of albums growing up and that is all I would ask for at Christmas or for my birthday. Growing up my listening was super diverse, – Chic to Van Halen. I was amazed at the sonic quality and production of Boston’s first album.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Great question! Chic meets Sade is a good description.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

Many years ago I had a original band that had one release here in the states and right after that the band split up. The music was Billy Idol like.. very danceable but rough around the edges.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I listen to some newer artists, but the artists I find myself listening to the most are Chic, Prefab Sprout, Pat Metheny Group, Sade, Everything but the Girl, Go West.. and then and now lots of smooth jazz artists..

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Nile Rodgers from Chic.. Just to meet him would be a thrill.

What are your plans for the future?

This release was a year and a half in the making. Since I write, record, produce and mix everything myself there is a bit of time involved. Currently I am keeping up with promotions for this EP and will start writing again within the next few weeks. I plan to release new singles for the next couple of years before I get to a album collection again.

Where can we find out more about you?
