Iceland Is Best – Director Max Newsom on new film screening in Chelmsford

Ahead of Friday’s Drive I caught up with director, producer and writer Max Newsom to discuss his new film “Iceland Is Best.” The film tells the story of Sigga, a 17 year-old girl trying to leave home in Iceland, and make her way to California. Filmed on location in an unforgiven and stunning Icelandic landscape Max had plenty of stories to tell about the production from battling gale-force winds and unpredictable snowstorms to the real-life inspiration of the film and the incredible journey that making the movie took Max, the cast and the crew on. We discussed a few interesting film industry insights too from financing a movie and how it works casting Hollywood A-listers to the importance of shooting a pre-production mood board and digital filming vs film stock.

Click here to listen from 4pm on Friday 27th August on Phoenix FM or click play to hear the full, uninterrupted interview below.

Iceland Is Best is coming to selected cinemas and will be screening at Everyman Cinema in Chelmsford on Tuesday 31st August 6pm. The screening is followed by a live Q&A with writer and director Max Newsom, director of photography and producer Dankuro Shinma and producer Will Randall-Coath. The Q&A will be hosted by our own Stewart Pink – so for a continuation of the interview… get your tickets and see you there!
