Brentford won promotion to the Premier League for the first time on Saturday, and will play top-flight football next season for the first time in 74 years.

They beat Swansea City 2-0 at Wembley in the Championship play-off final after 9 previous unsuccesssful attempts to gain promotion via this route.

It was the final day of the National League, where only play-off issues were still to be decided.

Dagenham & Redbridge rounded off their 2020/21 campiagn with a 1-1 draw at home to Wrexham, the Welsh club missing out on a play-off berth as a consequence.

The Daggers finished 12th, but will be pleased with their impressive run of results going into the end of the season, losing only one of their last 10 matches.

In Cricket Essex returned to the top of the County Championship Group One table, sealing a win over hosts Durham after only three days’ play.

Essex won by 195 runs, as Jamie Porter claimed four wickets and Peter Siddle three.

In the Essex League, Chelmsford are currently one of the pacesetters in the 1st XI Premier League after beating hosts Billericay by 91 runs.
