On what proved to be a memorable FA Cup final day for Leicester City – who beat Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley to lift the iconic trophy for the first time in their history – I gave the show an appropriate FA Cup flavour, with my regular quiz questions and ‘sporting anniversaries’ both revolving around the final of the competition.

There was still National League action to report on, as Dagenham & Redbridge continued their impressive run-in with a seventh win from their last eight games, beating FC Halifax Town 3-0 at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

But competition for play-off spots is fierce, and with Daryl McMahon’s men being four points adrift of the top seven with two games to go, it looks as though the promotion hunt may be beyond them this time around.

In Cricket, Essex were involved in a County Championship match at home to Derbyshire, and ended day three leading by 169 runs with 9 wickets remaining.
