Geoff helps blaze a trial for cycleway link suitable for riders and walkers

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

It’s great to be slowly and carefully welcoming live guests back on the radio again as there are so many local people with good ideas and causes to promote – and as much as we have loved Zoom it’s always better getting people in face to face.

Our Drive host Georgia Frampton was joined in the studio last week by Geoff Fletcher from Trailnet, a not-for-profit company dedicated to the promotion of outdoor physical activity in our community.

Geoff talked about the proposed new cycleway through Barrack Wood, which would link the new Ford Warley development to Thorndon Country Park, providing a safe, attractive, traffic-free route.

Trailnet are partnering up with Cycle Brentwood to raise the money needed to repurpose an old vehicle track and make it suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.

Geoff emphasised that having this route would be much safer than the current alternatives, and that it will help facilitate more people getting outdoors and opt for more environmentally friendly modes of travel.

Geoff also spoke about his favourite areas to cycle locally, Trailnet’s services, and even geocaching.

If you’d like to donate to the Barrack Wood cycleway fundraiser, you can find the crowdfunder page at https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/barrack-wood-bridleway or for more information follow @TrailnetCIC and @CycleBrentwood on Twitter. And like all of our interviews, you can hear it again at www.phoenixfm.com.
