How much for a “getaway”?

So with the past year’s Covid restrictions in  mind we asked today how much would you be prepared to shell out to go on a sea cruise.

Well it seems that Australian holidaymakers were so desperate that they snapped up places on a Silversea cruise departing Sydney in January 2023 within hours of tickets going on sale – and that in spite of the eye watering prices starting at £57,680 per person; the best rooms are a real snip at a mere £213,190 per person.

Mind you the Silver Shadow liner will call at 66 destinations, stopping off in 34 countries across 5 continents over a period of 139 days.

President and chief executive of Silversea Cruises, Roberto Martinoli, said “The itinerary will present an extraordinary mix of destinations, from the remote wonders of Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Réunion Island, and Cape Verde to iconic regions and cities, often unlocked on overnight calls (20 in total), including 10 days spent exploring Tasmania and New Zealand, three days in Myanmar, and a full week in South Africa.

“And, for the first time on a Silversea World Cruise, Silver Shadow will sail the Amazon River to unlock the natural and cultural wonders of this legendary region.”

He went on to say, “As it charts a course through captivating landscapes, each segment will unlock the history, culture and spirit of the people and places visited. Exclusive World Cruise events will open the doors to the sights, tastes and rhythms of local life, and shine a light on regional music, art, theatre, and dance traditions with authentic performances.”

Mr Martinoli strongly advised anyone who missed out when tickets first went on sale, to get their names down on the waiting list without delay.

So what are you waiting for?

Meanwhile at the other end of the scale we reported on the officials of one town under threat of arrest for not returning money seized by police from one man’s car whilst he was in a motel.

Yes, JERMAINE SANDERS was just leaving the motel in Mooresville, North Carolina,  when he found police officers searching the car he’d hired, without permission.

The search uncovered half an ounce of marijuana plus $17K in cash, all of which was duly seized following which Mr Sanders was arrested and charged with a minor offence.

Two days later, Ashley Cannon, an attorney appointed by Mr Sanders, cried foul claiming that the money had been illegally seized.

The court agreed and the judge ordered the Mooresville Police Department to return the cash but they refused, and two months later another judge has said the conduct of the police department was inexcusable and ordered them to return the cash within 7 days, failing which she would issue arrest warrants for the board of commissioners, the chief of police and anyone else considered responsible.

The town of Mooresville insists that the seizure of the money was lawfully executed and since handed over to the US Department of Homeland Security, is no longer in their possession.

They have now launched an appeal to have the court rulings overturned.

Only in America, me thinks!

See you again tomorrow,
Scott
