Tower Hamlets are into the next round but they have a game next week against May & Baker which could determine who finishes top of the group. Interestingly May & Baker are not yet guaranteed safe passage as Redbridge host a West Essex Development side that can’t qualify for the next round – while they themselves still can technically speaking. Redbridge are mathematically up against it; but a big win over West Essex, or else a win coupled with Tower Hamlets then doing them a favour by beating May & Baker by a big scoreline, are the scenarios that Redbridge need to pan out if they want to qualify. May & Baker need just a further point to take them beyond Redbridge’s reach.

Group C is as close as you would want a group to be going into the final round of group fixtures: any two from the four can still qualify into the knock-out stage. Barkingside need a point to secure qualification, with a win required if they want to top the group. They host Frenford Res. on Friday evening, and it is a game that the visitors must win if they want to make progress into the next round. Then on Saturday White Ensign host Grays Athletic in a game that the visitors have to win if they want to qualify. White Ensign as it stands at the moment need just a point to secure qualifiaction. A lot rides on Friday’s game. A Barkingside win would see them through as group leaders, a draw would see them through, a defeat would allow White Ensign the chance to top the group if they win their game, or else allow Grays Athletic the opportunity to do likewise if they turn out to be the victors. White Ensign can get through via a draw, but then we have to consider what the table will look like if Frenford beat Barkingside. It will all be worked out next weekend, but until then we can just work out all the possibilities in this hotly contested group.

Sawbridgeworth scored their goals through Ollie Palmer and Jack Taylor, and need to get maximum points from their game next week against Harlow Town Res. if they want to see themselves get out the group stages. Harlow Town Res. put themselves in a good position to qualify after they beat Walthamstow Res. 7-0. Hasan Muzib notched a hat-trick, Dillon Gordon bagged a brace, with Graeme Barker and Said Issa also chipping in.

Group C

Friday April 16

Barkingside Res. 2 White Ensign Res. 0

Barkingside Res. leap-frog White Ensign to go top of Group C after their secured a 2-0 win on Friday evening. Dominic Edwards handed Side the lead in the 14th minute, Manraj Phagura then doubled it ten minutes later, and with it the three points.

Saturday 17th April

Frenford Res. 1 Grays Athletic Res. 1

Frenford and Grays both went into this game needing a win, as it turns out the point shared may prove to be too little for either side as both now sit outside the qualification places. Julian Edwards scored the Frenford goal, with Harry Baker the Grays marksman.

Buildbase FA Vase 4th Round

Saturday 17th April

Sutton Common Rovers 1 Hadley 3

Hadley’s return to competitive football saw them continuing their FA Vase campaign at Sutton Common Rovers. The hosts took the lead on 18 minutes when Kyle Henry fired home. However Hadley certainly had their chances as the half wore on,  and eventually equalised in first half stoppage time via a Billy Baird penalty. The hosts were handed a chance to re-take the lead early in the second half when they were also awarded a penalty, but Luke Ward pulled off a save, and then on the hour Shaz Anwar handed the Bricks the lead. Victory was sealed in the 77th minute after Jordan Edwards had a shot saved by the keeper, but Luke Alfano was on hand to slot home the rebound. It means Hadley continue their best ever Vase campaign, and entertain Binfield from the Hellenic League next Saturday.

Group B

Friday April 16

Barkingside 1 Redbridge 2

The Motormen had to battle back from a goal down to defeat Barkingside at Oakside and make it maximum points from two games, Side went ahead just past the quarter hour mark through Jacob Dingli, but Redbridge levelled seven minutes before the break thanks to a fine finish from Shawn Harris. And just before the hour mark Redbridge netted what proved to be the winner through Tony Martin’s close-range finish, and it means two wins from two for The Motormen.

Saturday April 17

Clapton 2 Woodford Town 0

The Tons got their first win of the campaign and gave themselves a big chance of reaching the main knockout draw stage after a home win over pointless Woodford at The Terry Mac. Brandan Rooks rounded the keeper ton score eight minutes before the break to give the hosts the lead, and then with twenty minutes remaining Lewis Francis doubled their advantage to seal the points.

FC Clacton 2 Billericay Town U23s 2

Holland 4 Stansted 2

There were braces from Sam Thompson for the hosts and Gabby Ipanga Mbambo for the visitors, but it finished 2-2 at The Austin Arena between FC Clacton and Billericay’s U23 side, whilst Holland bounced back from their opening round defeat by hitting four past Stansted at Dulwich Road. Kieran Michael, Ruben Cowley, Harry Willougby and an own goal were the sources of the Holland goals, with Stansted scoring via Michael Salako and Jack Mitchell.
