A new take on ecclesiastical practices!

The start of another week which we started in style with news of the unusual services conducted by a clergyman in South Africa.

So what do you expect from your vicar when you go to his church?

Well what I suspect that you don’t expect is for him to sit on your face and then let one go!

So probably best to avoid attending the SevenFold Holy spirit missionary in Siyandani Village, Limpopo, South Africa which is run by Pastor Christ Penelope who claims that by adopting these methods he is simply demonstrating God’s power.

“It started with Master Jesus when he stepped on Peter. It is the demonstration of God’s power. Just like God made Adam go into a deep sleep, it is a similar thing”, he said.

According to Bishop Mabunda from Meadowlands, “This is wrong. Nowhere does God say sit on people and they will be healed.”

Whatever Pastor Penelope reckons is his biblical justification for a bit of temple trumping, his interpretation of the testaments is clearly at variance to other men of the cloth – hence exuding gaseous emissions into the faces of congregants doesn’t seem to be that commonplace in churches across the planet.

Somehow I don’t see this technique being adopted by either The Archbishop of Canterbury or the Pope!

And I have to say that I don’t recall reading anything in the Bible suggesting that someone guffing in your face should be an option to being offered communion using bread and wine!

And in the second hour of today’s programme I was joined by MARGARET MILLS for her regular “book choice” feature.

Her choice this time was THE SURVIVORS by JANE HARPER which concerns a murder linked to a mystery of the past.

The setting is Evelyn Bay, a fictional small coastal town in Tasmania,

The story is related by KIERAN ELLIOTT who 12 years earlier had been involved in an incident that resulted in the deaths of two young men, one of whom was his brother. They were lost during a tragic accident at sea, whilst attempting Kieran’s rescue during a tumultuous storm. At the same time, the sister of the girl he was with that fateful day went missing, presumed drowned, never to be seen again. Now fast forward to the present where the man who blames himself for that accident has returned home to deal with his ailing father.

Soon after his return, which brings out a lot of ill will, he meets up with old friends including Olivia, the girl he was with on that day, and who raised the alarm which lead to his rescue. But whilst with them he overhears a conversation between his late brother’s best friend, Liam and Bronte, Olivia’s art student roommate, suggesting that he was generally blamed for the death and/or disappearances that night so long ago.

The very next day Bronte’s body is found on the shore!

This new death sets the rumour mill into overdrive.

A detective from outside arrives to try to get a fresh perspective and more objectivity than may be possible solely by the local police.

This results in a connection being made between the new murder and the earlier deaths.

So if this book takes your fancy here are the details: – THE SURVIVORS by JANE HARPER available in hardcover, paperback, Kindle from all the usual stockists, and there’s also an audio option.

Hope to see you again on Wednesday,
