We caught up with singer/songwriter and musician Wesley Wilson to chat about his life and love of music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I’m from Santa Barbara in California. I come from a family of musicians – my great uncle Chet Akins was a big motivation for me to start playing guitar at 10 years old.

Later on I moved into a home where concert pianist Fredrik Rosvall resided at the time. We had a huge piano in our living room and decided I better learn how to play! It has become my instrument of choice. I play everything by ear and most of my playing is improvised. It became the way that I would release my everyday emotion. I’d come home after a long hard day at work and just put it all on the keys.

Who are your musical influences?

Very influenced by the classic rock solo guitar gods; Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page focused most of my playing on mastering the scales.

When did you start recording?

Covid hit and I lost my job, found myself with more time than ever and decided it was a great time to start really treating my music with intention. I began taking my poetry writings and writing them in with piano and guitar. I got a few voice lessons from all star Stevie Mackie and been working on finding my voice.

Which songs have you released to date?

Home was my first debut as a recording artist which I wrote, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered everything in my studio apartment here in Santa Barbara, Ca. I did the same for my newest release “Traveling On” and will continue to work at getting better and better.

What does music mean to you?

By day (and night) I am and fitness industry entrepreneur. Music is my place of understanding and release. I want to share my world with the world through my musical expression. My life’s purpose is to inspire, uplift and motivate people through the talents I was given. Music is a way for me to sort out what I’m going through and hope it does the same for others. Yes I’ll write the occasional heart break song, but that’s life and that’s apart of living. We all experience life through doing and it’s easy to think you may be the only one going through something, but in the end we are all connected emotional beings that want to love and be loved. I hope my music continues to shine out into the world with intention and love!

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

It would be a dream to Collab with John Mayer! Also very influenced by muse and Radiohead. I love their experimental sound and intellectual understand of complex world issues.
