New talent Tuesday – Annabelle on Playwriting

Today for New Talent Tuesday I was joined by Annabelle, student at KEGS in Chelmsford, to talk about playwriting and the National Youth Theatre. Annabelle discussed  how playwriting not only provided her with entertainment and purpose during lockdown, but how it helped her explore and understand her emotions and relationships better in such a confusing and difficult time. ‘Sometimes its hard to express emotions in words, and to understand other people… I think that writing, and writing about other people, helps you understand them’.

Annabelle also described how the experience of something so unexpected, such as a global pandemic, can change your perspective, and how it ‘opens your mind up to imagining ideas that [previously] seemed unrealistic’.

Annabelle also credited the National Youth Theatre, and the community it has provided her, for helping her develop as a playwright, and spoke about how excited she was to explore the growing opportunities with them as lockdown lifts. To find out more about the national youth theatre, and the programmes they provide, visit their website here.

If you missed Annabelle on drive, catchup below, and if you’re interested in coming on New Talent Tuesday to discuss a hobby or talent, we’d love to hear from you! You can contact Phoenix FM here, or message Georgia on FacebookInstagram, or Twitter
