We can’t wait for live performances by local bands to restart

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

Here at Phoenix FM one of the things we’ve really been missing over the last twelve months has been live performances from local bands.

In one year we had 220 sessions broadcast live in our studio and, understandably, that’s gone right down to zero at the moment. We’re all looking forward to the time when we can open up safely and welcome local musicians back to the studio.

So the best we can do at the moment is chat with them on the phone! We’re always looking for local bands and singers to talk to – so it was great to feature a new rock band from Southend, A Cause In Distress, for the first time.

Our rock show host Stewart Pink chatting to the band’s singer and keyboard player Liam on his Saturday night show, The As Yet Untitled Rock Show.

Liam talked about the band’s origins, their latest single Modern Commerce and what’s next for this exciting new three piece.

A Cause In Distress are signed to a Southend label, the appropriately named Cool Thing Records, who are run by one of my favourite Essex bands from the last ten years, Asylums. They have some great local artists signed to them, including BAIT, Indian Queens, The Horse Heads and Beckie Margaret.

Hopefully we’ll be able to get these bands off the phone and into the studio later this year – although of course, they’re still welcome on the phone too.

The interview can be heard again at phoenixfm.com and all the bands mentioned can be found at coolthingrecords.com. And thanks to Hayley Hill at Cool Thing for continuing to send great bands our way!
