On Today’s show we were very lucky to have two New Talent Tuesday guests! P-j and Pete joined me to talk about their respective talents- both folk music related!
P-j, a 15 year old local student, is a national 12-15 champion in Irish traditional music, playing both the piano accordion and the Bodhrán. Having grown up surrounded with Irish culture, and picking up his first accordion at just 5 years old, P-J told us all about the tradition, why its important to keep it alive, and why it means so much to him.
Hoy Boy Pete, another Essex local, joined me later in the show to discuss his love of Sea shanties, and their popularity on social media at the moment. Not only is the sea shanty a tradition hundreds of years old, but its recent popularity is not actually a revival- the shanty community have been alive and well long before the tiktok trend! Pete told us all about the history of the shanty, as well as how to get involved nowadays. He even recorded the Drive show its very own shanty! Check out Pete on Facebook and TikTok to learn more!
