Monday show gives Ian chance to fulfil his dream of being a radio DJ

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

I wanted to take the opportunity this week to introduce the new boy to the Phoenix FM – Ian Cash.

I’m cheating a little bit as Ian has been on air with us since September now but our recruitment is sadly on hold due to lockdown, so our existing team are managing all the on-air slots between them.

Ian has lived in Billericay for over 10 years although he grew up in Exeter where he would regularly frequent indie music clubs in his youth, so he’s not only a music lover but he has impeccable taste too.

His particular favourites include Oasis, Liam Gallagher, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters, which you can hear on his show along with the odd 90s dancefloor filler through to classic rock such as the Rolling Stones too.

Of course there’s no live music scene at the moment so up and coming bands rely on radio airplay to show off their talents. Ian’s show features these too, from bands like Red Rum Club, Citylightz and local band Rames who are all brilliant, according to Ian, and I can vouch for this too!

Ian’s wanted to be a radio DJ for a long time but the opportunity never came about at the right time due to life going in varying circles, jobs, children or living in different parts of the country.

But the time is right now and you can hear Ian every Monday evening at 10pm with his show, titled More Music Mondays. You can hear it on 98FM and online at phoenixfm.com.
