We caught up with Jay The Human to chat about his life and love of music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I am Jay the Human – I’m 21 years old and from Fairfield, California.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I started recording music when I was 17 but I’ve been writing music since I was 15.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

Growing up I listened to a lot of rap, artists like Boosie, The Game, and E-40. But in high school I started listening to a lot of artists from different genres like Bon Iver, mxmtoon, and Cavetown.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I don’t feel like my music has a solid middle ground on consistency. I’ll make a song about feeling worthless or hating myself and then another song about sending D pics to a girl I’m talking to. My music is definitely more for fun and I try to make songs based on what’s happening in my life or just because I thought it was funny.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I’ve been making music for about 4 years now, but I got my first song on Apple Music and Spotify when I was 19. Since then I’ve made an EP and an album.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

Lately I’ve been listening to Amine, Frank Ocean, and tobi lou. They definitely influence me and help me come up with new ideas and ways to make music.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

If I could work with any artist it would have to be an artist that passed while I was a fan, so it would be between juice WRLD, lil peep or X.

What are your plans for the future?

I’ve also been working on some projects with friends and a few on my own. I definitely plan on dropping something before April and as long as I keep having fun making music I’m not gonna stop.

Where can our listeners find out more about you?

I’m on all streaming services including Apple Music and Spotify, and you can also find me on Soundcloud and Twitter as well.
