We’ve been playlisting Dreams, the new track from Ekalb Flow featuring Shaddow Law – and we caught up with him to find out more about his life and music.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I started writing songs seriously about 4 years ago. I’ve always been interested in music but never truly pursued it before. There were always instruments being put in front of me since I was young, but I got my first guitar when I was 18 and that’s really when I started learning music theory. Eventually, I got tired of learning covers and started making my own music.

At work, I knew this guy who was a drummer and I talked to him about potentially starting a band and we did. I got another guy from work to play bass and voila, we had a 3 piece band. It never really took off, but we played some gigs and it was fun while it lasted. We even recorded an EP that we never released but it was a good learning experience if nothing else.

Outside of the band, I continued my musical journey and here we are, many evolutions later.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

Ever since I heard records being played at home. My mom was a huge fan of anything ’80s, ’90s. This included every genre, from ABBA to Run DMC.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

A bit of everything? I never could take to Country music but I did give it a try and I still think Darius Rucker is pretty solid. Was on a big metal kick during my teens but I heavily listened to ’90s and early 2000’s rap when I was young.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Very laid back and chill. In terms of lyrics, I seem to gravitate towards an introspectional matter. I always view making music as incredibly therapeutic and my lyrics I think reflect that.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

So far, I’ve officially released 2 singles. Don’t Freeze and Dreams (featuring my old friend and mentor, Shaddow Law). These are both singles off of my upcoming debut album, Paper Weights.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

Right now, I’m really digging Joey Bada$$, Isaiah Rashad, Kendrick Lamar, and Juice WRLD. Really amazing set of artists.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

If I could pick one, I’d probably want to do something with Nas or Jay-Z. They’re childhood heroes of mine so it would be incredible.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m currently finishing up University, one semester away from graduation. So there’s that. Musically, I’m working to complete and release this album sometime in the first half of 2021.

Where can we find out more about you?

I’m on all streaming platforms and you can also find me on Twitter and Instagram too.
