Not much local sport to talk about this week, as just three of our local football sides were in action on Saturday.

Southend United had success in their quest to move away from the foot of EFL League Two, as they beat fellow strugglers Barrow 1-0 at Roots Hall.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild’s goal just three minutes into his Southend debut – he had only signed on loan from Portsmouth until the end of the season two days previously – was enough to secure all points for Mark Molesley’s men and bring them within a point of safety.

In the National League South it was a great day for the two Essex sides whose games went ahead.

Braintree Town moved off the bottom of the table after a superb 2-1 win at home to Dartford – league leaders at the start of play – and Chelmsford City scored an outstanding 2-0 victory at St Albans City, who before Saturday had been the  only side in the NLS unbeaten in the league all season.
