We’ve been playlisting Asian Gang by Judicious Broski recently here on Phoenix FM – and we chat to the Tokyo rapper about his life and love of music.
Tell us a little bit about your yourself?
I’m a Japanese rapper born in Tokyo, Japan and now 28 years old. Making rap music mainly in trap music style but not limited to. I started to release musics since 2020 and try to grow fan base not only in japan but worldwide. Beats are provided by worldwide producers but songwriting, recording, mixing and mastering are all produced by myself.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
I was associated with “Galaxy” which is a Japanese rap group based in Tokyo 8 years ago and then we had a hip hop party in clubs and sometimes made songs with them. And now, I determined to make music by myself for developing real raps in the style mixed with trap and Japanese rap.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
The first rap artist I listen to in about 12 years old was Eminem. Since then, I was really into Hip Hop music mainly as “Dirty South Hip Hop” like T.I, Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane. I remember that I was listening to T.I.’s album “King” in my iPod all day when I was high school student. The hip hop music shocked me because It was a totally different culture for tiny, diligent Japanese kid.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
My music is “Vibes Music”, which sounds not only cool but you can energetic and fun vibes at the same time from my musics. So you can enjoy the sound based on my unique rap flow, voice and track even if you cannot understand the Japanese Lyrics. My main theme of my lyrics are shouting out importance of living “now” (not past or future) and keep it 100 in spite of the hardship wherever you are.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I released two albums – “Stranger Songs” in June 2020 and “Broski Season” in December 2020.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
Nowadays I enjoy listening to rappers like BlocBoy JB, key glock and lil mosey. I usually refer to those rappers for how to do mastering voice and making dope sounds.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
It’s Jeezy who is the one of my favourite rappers for many years.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to collab with many artists from different countries and make movement of creating cross-cultural music because we can access the other side of world easily by the internet.
