Artist Feature: The Band Wilson

We’ve bee chatting with The Band Wilson about their history, favourite music and plans for the future.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

We take our inspiration from classic artists of the 70s and 80s such as Fleetwood Mac, Gerry Rafferty and Bryan Adams among others. We create contemporary versions of some of the classic rock sounds brought up to date.

The band is a studio-based passion project in this time of lockdown.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

Founder Mark is a multi-instrumentalist playing keys from the age of 8 and guitar from the age of 12, and also writes and produces the tracks.

Mark has been sign to Island Records and Polygram Publishing in the past, and currently works with leading session musicians in the studio.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

Stevie Wonder, Motown, Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles formed the soundtrack to our youth. We’ve tried to send a love letter of thanks to those influences in our sound.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Wilson captures a feeling of time and place across the west coast of the USA with a Wide Stereo Cinematic sound and Studio Feel.

On “Locked Down” there’s 8 different Guitars played – acoustic, electric, and even a banjo session player.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

The band has a new EP in recording, and has one demo upbeat project on YouTube called “Just Shut up and Drive” – guitar-driven rock track reminiscent of ZZ Top classics,

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

We currently love listening to John Mayer, Rival Sons and modern guitar based rock.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

John Mayer would be the dream collaboration in the studio.

What are your plans for the future?

We plan to finish the EP, we’ve also been working with international filmmakers in lockdown to make the videos you can find on You Tube and post Lockdown plan to try and Tour the songs in the Summer.

You can see more of The Band Wilson by visiting them on Facebook, Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube.
