Today we took a look at two stories reflecting the times we live in.
It was in Charles Dickens’ classic OLIVER TWIST that the beadle, MR BUMBLE proclaimed, “If the law supposes that—the law is a ass.”
It seems that nothing changes as in order to abide by the law, two American megachurches in California have had to turn themselves into strip joints in order to stay open legally.
As the state has entered another lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are certain institutions that are permitted to stay open and there are those who have been ordered to shut.
Places like supermarkets and petrol stations – and apparently strip clubs, are allowed to keep their doors open – but churches are not.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, joked churches would be allowed to stay open if they rebranded as strip clubs.
The Awaken Church in San Diego and Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Thousand Oaks, duly followed that suggestion and re-styled themselves.
So The Awaken Church has now been re-named the NOW AWAKEN FAMILY FRIENDLY STRIP CLUB! (Where we strip the devil of his hold, power & authority over people’s lives!)”
In order to keep within the rules the Church has to perform a striptease for a minimum of 30 seconds and in a video posted on line two people can be seen taking off their jackets and ties to cheers from the congregation.
The Supreme Court is now investigating the ruling and a decision is expected to either force both strip clubs and churches to close, or allow churches to join strip clubs and reopen!
Meanwhile amidst all the recent “two-ing and fro-ing” of diplomats rushing to and from Brussels, news has just emerged of a rather more colourful story, sadly just glossed over by mainstream media, concerning a Hungarian MEP who was caught literally with his trousers down and breaking COVID restrictions, whilst attending an orgy above a gay bar in the Belgian capital.
When police responded to reports of a night-time disturbance, they broke into the room and were shocked by what they found.
The host of the event told reporters that the police immediately started demanding to see the participants ID cards, but as those present weren’t even wearing underpants, they were in no position to comply, which he said made the police angry, adding that “they were very unfriendly and said mean things”.
Even though naked, the MEP of 30 years standing, a senior member of the ruling party and married to a justice on the Constitutional Court in Hungary, attempted to make a break for it by climbing down a drainpipe and fleeing along the gutter.
Many of the 25 people who were at the event were each fined €250, but the public prosecutor’s office later confirmed that two of the attendees had been able to claim diplomatic immunity hiding behind their briefs, perhaps!
