Dedicated cricket show keeps its eye on the ball

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

Our dedicated cricket show 98 Not Out continues to go from strength to strength with hosts Daren Mootoo and Paul Webb getting some fantastic guests every week.

The last few weeks have seen interviews with former test cricket stars from around the world including Jonty Rhodes, Shane Watson, Matthew Hoggard, Jonathan Trott and Dominic Cork.

Our latest offering carried on the great run with legendary former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali and Australian batsman Adam Zampa on the show chatting about their life in cricket.

And we’ve clearly drawn the attention of the “big boys” as Daren and Paul were also joined in the studio by the host of Sky Sports’ cricket coverage, Matt Floyd.

Daren and Paul have some world-class names but, as they’re chairmen of Billericay and Brentwood cricket clubs respectively, also make sure that the local game is covered in depth too.

You can hear the show live every Thursday at 6pm, and all of our shows can be heard again at phoenixfm.com. Some more interstellar names are lined up for future shows too.

And while we’re on the subject of our sport coverage, we hit another milestone last week with the 200th edition of the Orient Hour.

The special bicentennial edition had an interview with Orient legend Tommy Taylor, who spent eight years at the club as a player and manager. He was also manager of the Caribbean island of Grenada, a job I probably wouldn’t have given up in a hurry.

As a West Ham fan I know Tommy as part of the team who won the 1975 FA Cup, so he’s fondly remembered by Hammers fans too.

The show has built up a worldwide audience of Orient fans and received a lot of great comments on social media too, including one from the club’s CEO Danny Macklin who offered his congratulations.

Well done to the show’s anchor Andy Gilson and the Orient Hour team, and here’s to another 200.
