Reggae Revival – Show 53

P H O E N I X   P L A Y E R
Reggae Revival - Show 53
Reggae Revival
Daren Mootoo

Your weekly fix of great reggae music from back in the day. This week the emphasis is on dub music – instrumental versions of songs where the mixing engineer intersperses snatches of the vocals with echoes, sound effects, reverberations and all other kinds of electronic wizardry. Reggae music was the first to feature this kind of technique, which is now commonplace among remixes and extended versions of songs across the musical landscape. There’s also a nod to the excellent BBC series of films “Small Axe”, directed by award-winning director Steve McQueen, which is required viewing.
